Junior Physics - Test Practice

Your test will be on FRIDAY!!! Here's some practice problems!!! If you need help, please come in!!!

Also, there are quite a few of you who need retakes. Please come in and retake your quizes!!!

I also assigned one problem for homework:

Javan is lateralled a football. He then heads towards the endzone. He started at 2 m/s and then sped up to 4 m/s in 1 s. He was then immediately tackled by a Barringer lineman. How far did Javan go?

Junior Physics - New Blog Assignment!!!

THERE WILL BE A TEST THIS FRIDAY ON KINEMATICS!!!!

Each group was given a planet. Please write about what it would take to make that planet habitable and what would life on that planet look like? How would the atmosphere need to be changed? How about the temperature? What would 11 year long years be like or 30 day long years? You could be a 12-year old toddler! Be creative! There is no wrong answer, but support why you think it should be that way! Write in paragraph form. Spelling and grammer matter. Why does spelling and grammer matter? The reason is that this is a public blog post and you want to sound intelligent, right? This assignment is due on Wednesday the latest!!! Have fun with it. It needs to be at least three paragraphs. The first could be an introduction as per how the planet was "terraformed". The second could be about life on the planet. The third could deal with a comparison between Earth and your planet. What does your planet export? What does your planet import? If you need more input on this, email us!

Here's a quick example. I took the dwarf planet, Ceres.

Ceres was terraformed in 2387. It's capitol city, Piazzi, was named after its discoverer and establish by the original colonizing astronauts. Since Ceres has little to no atmosphere, they had to bring breathable air with them. Since there are signs of water on Ceres, moisture farms were established to help stabilize the water cycle. Once the water cycle was established, a more permanent colony along with greenhouses was established.

It's always nighttime on Ceres. It can get depressing. Because there is no atmosphere to speak of, the sun shines like a giant star in the always black sky. We keep the greenhouses running off of UV lights.

This is just an example.

Oh... and by the way.... THERE WILL BE A TEST THIS FRIDAY ON KINEMATICS!!!!

Freshman Physics:  If you have not completed your lab (stomp rocket lab) please do so and return to Mr. Kolb on Tuesday.  There will be a quiz on KEQ3 on Tuesday 10/25.  Please practice by doing HW problems 83-88. Mr. B will be out Mon-Wed of next week.  Please see Mr. Kolb for any questions, extra help, re-takes, etc.

Junior/Sr. Physics:  Complete the "Hopper Lab".  THIS WILL COUNT AS A QUIZ (Just like the other labs!!!) Turn it in on Monday to Mr. Kolb.  Also for Monday, you can begin looking at the other students' blogs in our class.  Your assignment will be to solve someone else's physics problem.  You should know the correct answer to the problem you've posted as well. Remember I will be out on Monday and Wednesday!  Click here to view the other students' blogs: https://sites.google.com/site/489blogs/

AP Physics:  We will be having the TEST on Universal Gravitation Next week.  Continue to work on the practice problems, read the copies of the text book and presentation.  Focus on the multiple choice and the open ended.   Also, please schedule a time to retake any previous tests!  The end of the cycle is near!

Freshman Physics:  Complete the stomp rocket lab! This will be collected and counted as a quiz!

AP Physics:  Complete the Blog Post. Practice Univ. Grav. Multiple Choice Problems 4-6

Monday, October 17th, 2011 (A Day)

AP Physics:  We want you guys to continue to grow in this class.  As teachers, we know that we are also often learning alongside the students.  We'd like you to help us learn how to improve the student experience. Since this is our first year teaching AP Physics, we would like some of your ideas on how to make the class better.
This assignment should be completed in your blogs.  Please write what an ideal class/classroom would be like for you. Think of some classes you've had in the past where you feel you learned the most.  Describe what those classes were like and why you enjoyed them or learned so much in them.  Lastly, I'd like your ideas on how we can implement some of those things you enjoyed into our AP Physics class.  Please do not simply write: "I like watching movies in class".  Try hard to explain how we could make that happen in our class.  (like what specific movie could we watch and how would it help you acheive the objectives) Hopefully you will be able to come up with good ideas or strategies that will help us make the class a more enjoyable and effective one.  This assignment will be due on Thursday 10/20/11 by the end of the school day.  Please, no more late entries in blogs.

Junior/Senior Physics:  Read Below. In addition to the selected practice problems, you must also write your own ORIGINAL kinematics problem. We want you to be creative!  PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU FINISH THIS BY THURSDAY 10/20/11!!! IT HAS TO BE FINISHED SO OTHER STUDENTS CAN SOLVE YOUR QUESTION! AND SO YOU CAN SOLVE THEIRS! Again, please read Mr. Kolb's post directly beneath this one!

Junior Class Physics Homework

Do questions 95-103.

Remember to write down your givens first so that you can figure out which equations to use!!!

Also post a real kinematics question to your blog!!! This is due Thursday!!! We will need this!!!

Thursday, October 13

Thursday, October 13th, A Day

Jr./Sr. Physics:    Homework # 104-110,  And there will be a quiz on the 3rd Kinematics Equation on Monday, October 17th.

AP Physics:   Finish all Multiple Choice and Free Response Problems.  Test on Circular Motion on Monday, October 17th. Bring in questions on material Tomorrow.

Tuesday, October 11

Tuesday, October 11, 2011

Junior/Senior Physics:  Practice KEQ3 problems #83-88. Good class today, but I need you guys to be a little bit more focused.  You need to start writing down your homework and keeping a notebook for the class... Things you may still owe me:  Graph/Blog Post, KEQ2 take home quiz, Stomp rocket and Bowling ball lab write-ups, quiz retakes, etc.  Remember what I told you today in class.  I will not allow you to make up all of these things a week before the end of the cycle (which, by the way, is coming very soon).

AP Physics:  Multiple Choice #5-14.  Free Response # .... Stefany and Melissa, Please come to class on time.   Remember what I told you... If everyone in the class gets a "B" or better on the Kinematics Make-Up by Thursday October 13, 2011, I WILL THROW YOU A PIZZA PARTY!  You may come in the morning, during lunch, or after school. If you come to class late, there will NOT be a pizza party. (Melissa and Stefany.... I don't want to hear excuses)

Friday, October 7

Your homework is 70-74.

Remember your math!!!

Anything times zero = zero!!!
Anything times one = anything!!!
The root of anything squared = anything!!!
Anything over anything = anything!!!

Enjoy your long weekend!!!
